‘My Halal Cert is processing’ - the most common admission that I’ve come across when I ask about a shop’s halal status, especially when they were previously halal certified. Tbh, I don’t think they are lying, but at which stage is this ‘processing’ is always not clear.
Have they started replacing their non-halal ingredients with halal ones?
Have they engaged a consultant to look at their eligibility for Halal Certification? Have they even hired a consultant?
Or is the application already with MUIS?
Or perhaps, has MUIS already sent them rectifications for things they need to do in order to get the halal certification?
In my personal experience, a brand once told me that they were in the process of obtaining the Halal Certification, but have not yet even started the process. Turns out, they meant that their boss only decided that very same morning that they were going to go ahead with the Halal Certification.
An intention to go halal for your eatery is great, isn’t it? But an intention to obtain the Halal Certification does not mean that th efood automatically becomes suitable for muslim consumption.
An intention is necessary, but it is not everything that is needed when it comes to halal compliance.
