Delving a little bit into why this series took my many years to finally complete, I want to share one thing that my bosses and I often include when we discuss halal policies - and that is whether Halal Compliance should be a checklist, or should it be a holistic approach.
If Halal compliance was a checklist, then tick all the boxes, and you will be able to attain the Halal Certification. In bureaucratic Singapore, this is how we view any certification or accreditation body.
On the other hand, if halal compliance was approached as a holistic compliance to the Islamic lifestyle - then even when all the boxes have been checked, there is still a case by case qualitative consideration to be done - an example of such, is discussed in this episode.
